Who are you guys?

I/O Vortex is the digital domain of Travis Fischer, programmer, tech guru and nerd. He hopes to bring cool and useful software to the people, for the people. This isn't his day job, but this is definitely more than his hobby.

What's with the name?

I/O Vortex came in a dream. I think. I/O is Input/Output, the channels that a program uses to exchange data, with other programs or its users. All this input and output is swirling around in a vortex because what's input for one thing is output for something else, around and around. I/O is also close to 1 and 0, the binary system all of these computers are based on anyway (and the only numbers anybody really needs). So, I/O is basically just bits, slowly merging together into one thing, which is why you'll find Φ all over the place....

What is this?

What is life? Why are we even here? Those are good questions too, you know. As to "this," you can't be more vague but I'm guessing you're talking about this Wiki. Well, I want I/O Vortex to be a collaborative effort. I don't mean that in the sense of we're going to collaboratively work on software like the Open Source movement. While I'm open to that, that's not what I'm going for at the moment. What I mean is that I want to write programs that people want in a way that people want to use them. How am I supposed to know what you want if you don't tell me? This wiki's your chance!

Alright then, what is life?

Life is what you make of it. It's a blank template that you can program however you like. Want a more philosophical answer? Fine, in the beginning was the Word and the Word was LISP.

Why are we even here?

To write cool software. Duh!
